MI6 is known as the Secret Intelligence Service. They are a part of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office responsible for the the acquisition of covertly gathered intelligence abroad.

According the the website of the SIS people who wish to work there require security clearance and undergo "Developed Vetting" where a person's background, history and acquaintances are investigated in detail. According to the website the minimum age someone can undergo this process is 21.

Further to the above it is assumed that working for SIS is a significant responsibility and there may be severe (potentially fatal) consequences for making mistakes. Also a degree of life experience would also probably be useful for someone working in this type of role which children would not have.
