Probably the most obvious is insecurity. They don't know how the other will accept their opinions, personality, experiences and lives in general. They are afraid the other won't like their hair, body, eyes, car, job, family, religion, children...the list goes on. They want to impress the other sex without looking like they're trying to impress. In short, they allow their insecurities to keep them from being themselves and being openly able to communicate in a healthy way.

∙ 12y agoit is a proven fact that men do not communicate the same as women. In the past, women have been the emotional providers, where as men were the physical providers. Over time this has changed, but the women are still more deeply rooted in the psychological well being of their family then men are. This is not to say that men do not care, but that they did not evolve to be able to handle those emotions the same as women.
Men also have a smaller linguistic ability than women, so they truly (in most cases) do not know how to form their emotions and feelings in words, making it seem like they don't care.
Finally, being emotional is seen as being feminine, which scares a lot of men (not because they are homophobic, but again, it is an evolutionary thing).
all of these play a role as to why men do not communicate as well as women.
