Rabbits can eat plum, but not too much, and not the pit/stone inside. Plum is a good treat food for rabbits. The House Rabbit Society recommends no more than 2 tablespoons of natural treat food per day for a healthy, normal 6 pound rabbit. See the related question below for more info about the rabbit diet.

They can't eat these things because it wouldn't be available to them in the wild. Plus these could poison your rabbit.

The wood from cherry trees, plum trees, and other stone fruit (aka drupe) trees is poisonous for rabbits.

Walnut wood is toxic because of the tannins.

Pine, cedar, and other conifers are toxic because of the phenols (they can cause liver disease). Even being near these woods can be poisonous for rabbits (like if you use them as litter wood chips).

Their teeth have very sensitive roots which lead to infection if not treated properly. The hard bark of these trees trigger the infection and symptoms that lead to the rabbit having severe pains.

These are safe woods for rabbits:

  • Apple
  • Ash
  • Berry brambles
  • Birch
  • Hawthorn
  • Hazel
  • Juniper
  • Maple
  • Pear
  • Poplar
  • Spruce
  • Willow
