Well, whatever we see, we see only because light reflects off it, and that reflected light is captured by our retina.

Without a light source, there will be no light to reflect off the object. So, we can't see anything.

Think of it like closing your eyes, or a pitch black room.

What enables someone to see objects?

You need a light source for you to see a object. Without a light source, you wont be able to see anything at all. For example, it is a sunny day and you are sitting underneath a tree in a park reading a book. For you to be able to see your book, there has to be a light source. The only source of light that has the biggest possibility is the sun. The light from the sun travels in a straight line to the book you are reading which then reflects in a straight line into your eyes. The same concept is applied even if you are indoors but instead the light source can be the light bulb or maybe even the light from the sun coming in through the windows. It depends, but a light source is needed for you to be able to see anything.

We cannot see a light source even if 1 opaque material is blocking the light source. Opaque materials do not allow light to pass through them so we cannot see light through them but we can still see light reflected by them.

Why can't you see anything without a light source?

Without a light source, objects do not reflect any light into your eyes, causing them to appear invisible or very dark. Our eyes need light to bounce off objects and stimulate the cells in our retinas in order to create the perception of sight.
