To be soluble a solution must be capable of being dissolved in a solvent, usually water. The HCL cannot ionize into H+ with the COOH ring in the Benzoic acid. Benzoic is hydrophobic in this solution.
Cyclohexane is a nonpolar solvent. Benzoic acid is polar since its carboxyllic tail -COOH can be deprotonated to COO-. This charge will not only attract other polar molecules of itself, but it will also push away cyclohexane and other molecules with no polarity.
This depends on the temperature; at 25 oC the volume of water is 300 mL.
temperature affects the solubility of a substance..benzoic is poor in cold water because it is only slightly soluble in water..in order for it to reach the point of saturation, heat must be applied..heat acts as a catalyst..
To determine the partition coefficient of Benzoic Acid between Benzene and water the solubility of benzoic acid is required. The partition can then be determined by calculation.
A solution of sand in (dissolved) benzoic acid will not nbe possible. It is called a (heterogenous) mixture or suspension of sand in this liquid. However the separation can be carried out by filtration, centrifugation or sinking the sand down.
Sand is insoluble in water and can be easily filtered.
Benzoic acid is soluble in water, as are all acids, by definition. An acid is a chemical which, when dissolved in water, increases the concentration of H+ ions.
This depends on the temperature; at 25 oC the volume of water is 300 mL.
Benzoic acid solubilty in water at room temperature: 2,9 g/L. Sugar solubilty in water at room temperature: 2000 g/L.
The eutectic temperature for benzoic acid and mendelic acid mixture is 105-106º C. This is usually about 60% mandelic acid and 40% benzoic acid.
temperature affects the solubility of a substance..benzoic is poor in cold water because it is only slightly soluble in water..in order for it to reach the point of saturation, heat must be applied..heat acts as a catalyst..
depends on how much benzoic acid you use. if you have 0.5g of benzoic acid , you need 30ml of water as a solvent.
I assume that it will not react because benzoic acid cannot be oxidized easily by the hypochlorous acid. I would not try this at a large scale without appropriate safety measures though!
To determine the partition coefficient of Benzoic Acid between Benzene and water the solubility of benzoic acid is required. The partition can then be determined by calculation.
Benzoic acid is produced from toluene and oxygen. The toluene is oxidyzed and a water molecule is released, which resuls in benzoic acid source: wikipedia
The products of the thermal degradation of benzoic acid are carbon dioxide and water.
benzoic acid + Sodium Hydroxide ==> water + sodium benzoate
The solubility of benzoic acid in hot water is 68g/L and 1.7g/L in ice cold water.
