Normal washing machine motors are designed to work an alternating current and battery produce direct current. As well as this you would need a number of say 12 V car battery's hooked up in serys to make 240 volt. However if you put a dc motor in one allong with the corect ellectronics required to run it if you want it to work along the lines of a modern machine you can run one on battery's. at 12 volts if you chose.

∙ 12y agoHousehold washers run on alternating current. Batteries provide direct current. If you had large enough batteries and an inverter to convert the DC to AC you could operate the machine from batteries.
This would not be a very efficient method to run a washer but it is possible.
