Well, either you've known them for so long a deeper relationship is out of the question, or you're too scared and think that if you two do go out, and it ends badly, you will lose a very loyal friend. Talk to them about it and try and figure out your feelings. My cousin had a guy friend since she was 12 or 13, and now they're going out. He gave her a promise ring and they spend nights together. She's 19 now and I'm almost positive that they are meant for each other. My point is, if you never try and go with your gut feeling, you'll never know what you're missing out on.
