You can use Wifi on a DSI, if it doesn't work with you then it's probably because you have WPA connection security settings. WPA connection will allow you to surf the internet and go on the DSI Shop etc., but will not allow you to play games over Nintendo Wifi Connection. To do this, you will have to change your settings to WEP so that you can play on Wifi on your DSI. However, WEP is not as safe to use an internet connection as WPA, so be careful. Hope I Helped...
