Colonists left Europe to the colonies for a better life. At that time, people were much richer in the colonies than in Europe. Almost everyone owned property in the colonies, more than in England at the time. Some also left for religious freedom.

Colonists vs. England

There are many reasons why the colonists wanted to break away from england.

  1. Could not expand due to the Proclamation of 1763
  2. New laws due to financial distress
  3. Cracked down on colonial smuggling (sugar act)
  4. Acts & Taxes- Sugar act, navigation act, intolerable act, stamp act, and Boston tea party act.
  5. Writs of Assistance
  6. Religious Freedom elsewhere
  7. Banned trading
  8. War
  9. Quartering of British troops in colonial homes (intolerbale acts)

Hope this helps

The colonies wanted to break away because England was treating them poorly. The king put soldiers on the colonies' land, made them pay high taxes, he did not listen to the colonies, and more.
