Jamestown Virginia was discovered by the colonists when they came to America in 1607. They arrived and discovered the land where Jamestown was founded about 40 miles from the Atlantic Ocean.

Many people think it was Captain John Smith who came with the colonist in Jamestown. He was in Jamestown, but that was after they had been there awhile that he arrived. He found a colony that was dying.
The colonists fled Jamestown in 1610 by a ship bound for return to England. On the way they came upon three supply ships headed to Jamestown. On board one of the ships was a new Governor. He would not let Jamestown be abandoned and brought the entire group back.
