While there he was assassinated by Serbian Nationals who opposed Austrian expansion. As a result of his sons death, Emperor Joseph of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia. As a great ally of Russia, Russia declares war im which Russia's ally France declares war. Four days later the German Empire who was a great ally of Austria declared war on Serbia, Russia, and France.
