  1. Dewey had a greater number of modern ships.
  2. The Spanish thought he would lose so he wanted to A.) spare Manila the shelling and B.) be sunk in shallow water.
  3. to do that he did move away from the shore batteries and waited for Dewey to find him.
  4. When Dewey did find him, his better trained crews fired over 4,000 rounds at the Spanish fleet in a couple of hours.
  5. Overall, the Spanish had no chance, thought they had no chance and lost all their ships with the one American casualty caused by a heart attack.
