The Beatles or more specifically, Paul McCartney, started work on the song Let It Be during their recording sessions in January 1969. So, perhaps he had the song composed by late '68 and only showed it to the group in 1/69. Supposedly, the idea came to him in a dream about his late mother, Mary. He knew he had a good one when playing it for the other 3 because bootlegs exist of him introducing the song with words like "This is really a good one or this is going to knock you out", etc. The song would not be officially released until over a year later in 1970. "Let It Be" was written by Paul McCartney during a time of despair as the Beatles were falling apart. In an interview, Paul commented that writing Let It Be was a way of exorcising the ghosts for him. Rather than invoking the "Virgin Mary", which many thought, it was actually a reference to Paul's mother, Mary, who had died when he was 14, who he imagined being there for him and offering support. Quote: "It gave me some strength. In my darkest hour, mother Mary had come to me".
Of course. Let It Be. Unfortunately this world was not ready for that. Too much negatively. Just as the saying 'Why can't we all get along". We all have the ability to obtain Wisdom. We should not have to whisper. But people do. I do not understand that. Never will. Our quest for peace and wisdom must come from inside our thoughts. Until we can achieve that "Let It Be" will be our quest. I am up for the challenge.

McCartney said he had the idea of "Let It Be" after a dream he had about his mother during the tense period surrounding the sessions for The Beatles (the "White Album"). McCartney explained that his mother-who died of cancer when McCartney was fourteen-was the inspiration for the "Mother Mary" lyric.[4][5] He later said, "It was great to visit with her again. I felt very blessed to have that dream. So that got me writing 'Let It Be'."[6][7] He also said in a later interview about the dream that his mother had told him, "It will be all right, just let it be."[8]
