Best Answer

Booth thought he could restart the civil war with the death of Lincoln. He saw himself as a hero and that south would rejoice over the death of Lincoln. Booth expected to get help from southerners, but instead they shunned him. The south was just as upset over the death of the president as the north. The diary of Booth reflects how surprised he was over the reaction to his shooting Lincoln. He didn't get the help he needed and became a wanted man by everyone including the south.
