He stayed there until things began to get rough in eastern Europe in 1909. He traveled back to America to escape the conflict occurring in Poland. On July 15, 1909, in Boston, Massachusetts, Czolgosz was shot in the forehead by a civilian who recognized who he was. The shot killed him.
