On September 6, 1901, William McKinley was shot in the chest twice by Leon Czolgosz. William McKinley died from the wounds eight days later on September 14, 1901. Czolgosz went on the run and into hiding until he was pursued and shot by the military in Cleveland Ohio on January 31, 1902. A bullet had pierced his left arm, but he survived. After the wound recoverd, Czolgosz decided to flee to the country his ancestors were from, Poland, to escape getting killed. On April 9, 1902, Czolgosz left for Poland. He stayed there until things began to get rough in eastern Europe in 1909. He traveled back to America to escape the conflict occurring in Poland. On July 15, 1909, in Boston, Massachusetts, Czolgosz was shot in the forehead by a civilian who recognized who he was. The shot killed him.
