The first FFA jacket was created by a store in Fredericktown, Ohio and was modified by the local Fredericktown high school FFA chapter and worn to the National Convention in 1933. It was liked so much that it was made the official dress of the FFA. The jacket store no longer exists, but the building is still there and can be seen right on main street. The original high school was demolished a few years ago where the FFA chapter originally resided.

There should be no more than 3 medals on the FFA jacket. They should be under the member's name on the right side of the coat. These medals should represent the highest degree achieved, FFA officer pin, and an award pin.

The official dress of the FFA is different for males and females. For females - FFA jacket, FFA scarf, white collared shirt, black skirt to the knee with a slit no longer than 2" long excluding the kick pleat, black hose, and black shoes with closed toe and closed heel. Black slacks may be worn for outdoor activities or traveling. For males - FFA jacket, FFA tie, white collared shirt, black slacks, black socks, black shoes. For both - the FFA jacket should be zipped to the top and the sleeves buttoned. There should be no more than 3 FFA medals on the right side of the jacket below the name.
