What American Revolution battle saw an American general lose to a victorious British General Cornwallis?
In March of 1781, American General Nathan Greene lost a fierce battle to General Cornwallis at the Guilford Court House in North Carolina. Greene kept his composure, however, and the British, although victorious had to regroup. Cornwallis had to retreat in order to keep control of his supply base. In order to do this the British forces exhausted themselves in the forced march of almost 500 miles. As an aside, Cornwallis paid tribute to Greene as seen by his personal letters to a friend in New York.
