Germany attacked the UK after the invasion of France and the German troops successfully occupied France. The UK was the next step in the Nazi's plan to control Europe.

Please note: Britian did not attack Germany first. Germany provoked the war with it's invasion of Poland. The planned invasion of England had nothing to do with getting back at England. The UK became involved when various alliances kicked in with the German invasion.
