I guess the level of a countries ability to project it's influence throughout the world is an indicator of its status in world affairs; For example the position of the US as a super power relates directly to its technological, industrial, financial and military might. At the end of the 2nd world war England had lost its financial strength due to the burden of reconstruction and the fact that it owed the US hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars for the military hardware it supplied. The cost of helping to rebuildi the lives of its people with the aid of welfare and other measure, and also the transformation of its industry from weapons production to a prominent world exporter world have been a huge drain on its purse. Thus we can see that of the four indicators needed to become a world power, the financial reserves of a country is top of the list. Let us not forget a countries number one asset - its free, hard working and enterprising people. The foundation of a modern, strong and lasting world power is its population. In this the 21st century, England is again a world power.
