Beacuse the Greeks did not have very advanced science, they did not understand how or when things came about, such as thunder or water. They made the Olympian gods to explain these happenings and used myths to further explain the stories.

Greeks used mythology because, they did not belive in god, so they blamed them wenever somthing hapend, like they would blame Zues for a lighting storm

The same reason people today use The Bible. These weren't just stories to the Greeks. These were religious tales that imparted a lesson to be learned, or of piety or morality.

To tell how things were created or what happened. Such as Zeus making a thunderstorm when he is angry. It was their way of coping with the unknown without our current scientific knowledge.
