Well, she escaped from slavery and risked her life nineteen times as a "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. Her efforts helped free over three hundred slaves from the South before the Civil War. During the War, she helped slaves secure freedom by working for the Union Army. After the War, she raised money to help former slaves improve their lives. In doing this, she gave the greatest gift of all, freedom.
