Harriet Tubman helped them escape because when she escaped she had hope for her and other people that they can escape. So she helped over 300 slaves escape and never was caught or never lost one slave. She made 19 journeys in the 1850's too.

As You all know slavery is not allowed any more..... But when she was alive slavery was allowed. She was a slave and she felt the other slaves should be free too. Because slavery is just wrong.

Harriet Tubman freed the slaves because she didn't think it was fair for her to be free and wanted as many slaves as possible to receive their freedom. Many stayed in the friendly non-slave Northern States, others she helped get to British Canada.

Her Underground railroad became famous among Northern abolitionists. Her activities were risky as she her self was an escaped slave and subject to capture herself.

Under the act passed by Congress, she herself

was subject to the Fugitive Slave Act. All the people who aided the escaped slaves were subject to fines or jail time.

This question was flagged for improvement which I have done. One of her failures, however, was her attempted assistance to John Brown.
