In the first years of production from 1908 to 1913 The Model T was not available in black. From 1914 to 1925 the Model T Ford was mass-produced in only one color—black. This was to keep the cost down.
I believe it was black. Henry Ford is alleged to have proclaimed, "You can have any color you want, as long as it's black." From 1914 to 1925 the Model T was only available in black.

because there back:) Most likely trains were painted black because they were iron or steel and had to have paint to protect them from rust; and "Black" was the cheapest paint available at the time. This is also the same reason that Henry Ford produced "Black" cars. Black pigment, used in paint, is made from carbon and you can get that from burning just about anything.
