His minister of Propaganda - Joseph Goebbels - told him he needed an original look. So, he shaved the edges of his moustache. I'll attach an image below of a young Hitler with a full moustache.
It was because toothbrush moustaches were fashionable then (i think) but after Hitler died people didn't like them, however some people still were them.

Although some people refer to his facial hair as a 'Hitler Moustache', that correct name for that style is actually the Toothbrush Moustache. They were fairly popular in the 1920's - Hitler was not the only one who wore this style of moustache.
Why shouldnt he have kept his moustache.
Adolph Hitler had a square moustache.
No. Early in World War I, Hitler wore a larger moustache. However, according to fellow soldier Alexander Moritz Frey, soldiers were required -- later in World War I -- to trim their moustaches so that their moustaches would fit under their gas masks. Hitler therefore had to trim his moustache. See: Tony Paterson, "Hitler was ordered to trim his moustache," Telegraph (British newspaper), 6 May 2007.
Adolf Hitler had a bowl hair cut, his hair was dark brown, his eyes are brown and he had a moustache that was meant to be a French styled moustache with the two points at the end but the sister told him to have a unique moustache and to take the points off. His moustache, after he cut the points off, was a random rectangle on the top of his lip. Hitler was not skinny or fat, he was regular - chubby. He was tall and when he walked, he walked as if he had a problem with his back and he could bend it, he walked all straight like a brick.
Toothbrush moustache also known as Hitler's moustache or Hitlerstache, Charlie Chaplin moustache, 1/3 moustache, Philtrum moustache, the postage stamp, or soul (mou)stache). It's a moustache, which is shaved at the edges, except for 3 to 5 centimeters above the center of the lip. The sides of the moustache are vertical rather than tapered. It was introduced in Germany in the late 19th century by visiting Americans.

No, it is only racist if you have a moustache like Hitler because you admire him and you share his views. But just having a moustache like Hitler would not make you a racist.
whiskers
Hitler did not have a hair lip. He did have a moustache, though.
Why shouldnt he have kept his moustache.
Yes, it was. The moustache was so awful and annoyed the British so much that British Intelligence revealed after the war that there was a secret plan to try and remove Hitler's moustache from his face. Spies planned to try and secretly inject Hitler with oestrogen (estrogen in American-English spelling) hormones to make his moustache literally fall off his face. The injection would have also calmed Hitler down a bit, in theory, so he might have stopped invading people and listened to the Allies.
