Best Answer

Jefferson wanted to elicit no anger from other countries who had previously done some exploring. The letter contained instructions that described the expected guidelines that Lewis and Clark would be able to do so as to successfully complete the mission and draw the least controversy.

Why did Lewis and clark keep journals?

Lewis and Clark kept journals so that they could report their discoveries to President Jefferson. At the time, Jefferson had just bout the Louisiana Territory and he needed to know what was over there. He chose Lewis, who was his personal secretary to go on an expedition and Lewis chose Clark to accompany him and be his second in command. They basically just needed to write down everything that would have been useful for president Jefferson.

Did Lewis and Clark write a book about their journey?

No, they did not. But they did write a documentary about wha they have seen, but you won't get that anywhere because it all went to president Thomas Jefferson.

Why did Jefferson write to Lewis and Clark?

Well it was Thomas Jefferson who originally sent them on their journey to the coast, so I would imagine that he would have wanted to be kept updated on their progress and what they saw as they went about their journey.

How many men were a part of the Lewis and Clark journals?

There would be a total of 31 people in the Lewis and Clark expedition, but Lewis and Clark were the only ones who were permitted to write in the journals. Being that the instructions of what to write in them were given to Lewis only, and eventually Clark would know them, the others did not have the authority to do so.

What can be uses for the letter Q in a Lewis and Clark ABC book?

In a Lewis and Clark ABC book, the letter Q can be used to represent "Quartermaster," who was responsible for managing and distributing supplies on the expedition. Another option could be "Quiver" to represent the carrying case for arrows used for hunting and protection during the journey.

How do you write a funny play about the Lewis and Clark expedition?

- You could use details of Lewis and Clark crew being chased by a bear, spending a whole day trying to catch a prairie dog, and accidentally shooting at a woman on the first day of the journey. (Click link for details on that). You could also have an omnipresent "voice" representing Jefferson when they receive letters from him. It would actually be more effective if you have this intimidating voice, off stage, read out really fast all the instructions that Jefferson gave to Lewis and Clark (which is really long and in no way could Lewis and Clark manage to do everything on it and focus on surviving) and then Lewis and Clark just stare at each other and then at the instructions again onstage in amazement. Just some ideas for you. A lot of funny things happened on the trip, another instance is where Lewis was followed by a baby buffalo and had trouble getting it to stop following him, you could incorporate that as well.

Why were Lewis and Clark famous or important for what they did?

Lewis and Clark are famous for what they did because they were sent out to unknown land and set to explore and discover things like water routes to the pacific ocean and write a description of the territory
