So you can be one with Jesus. And it is a sacrament, and Our Blessed Lord commanded that you eat His Body and drink His Blood, else you have no life in you.

By the way, you NEVER "take" the Body and Blood of Our Blessed Lord, you "receive" it in Holy Communion. You do this because Our Blessed Lord was very specific and commanded it, and condemned anyone, with a pretty stiff oath, that does not eat His Body and Drink His Blood:

St. John, chapter 6, verses 54-59:

Jesus therefore said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His Blood, you shall not have life in you. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life everlasting and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me and I in him. As the living Father has sent me, and as I live because of the Father, so he who eats me, he also shall live because of me. This is the bread that has come down from heaven; not as your fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread shall live forever."

Answer:

Modern professing Christianity is blinded to the realization that "Jesus was changing the way the Passover was to be kept" on that last day of His mortal life. That sacrificing lambs, goats and bulls was no longer required [and was actually quite pointless] after that day; the day of His arrest, kangaroo trial and subsequent murder at the hands of His own creation.

The "prophecy" that is the Passover, that God [Jesus Christ; the Creator God of the Old Testament and WORD of God who "made all things" - John 1:1-3] orchestrated and instituted way back when He liberated the Israelites from Egypt... was about to be FULFILLED by Jesus Christ that night!

The Passover is the FIRST of God's annual Holy Day or High Day feasts. And like the other six feasts of the LORD [the Days of Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, the Feast of Tabernacles and the Last Great Day], the Passover is also "Christ-centered." That is, they all POINT TO HIM FOR THEIR ULTIMATE FULFILLMENT!

Each of God's appointed annual feasts, above, picture the "SEVEN PHASES OF HIS PLAN!" And, ironically... the world's blindness to this fact keeps the collective eyes, heart and mind of the world OFF of its Creator, His Truth and His works. The two major religions of this world that profess the Bible's God are testimony to this blindness and confusion.

The Jews, who don't profess Christ, still claim to worship the God of their father Abraham... whom John tells us WAS and IS ABRAHAM'S GOD!

" 'In the most solemn Truth,' answered Jesus, 'I tell you that before Abraham came into existence, I AM.'" (John 8:58 WEY Weymouth's New Testament)

So, the Jews... not believing in Jesus, the Bible-revealed God of their father and the Messiah; observe the annual feasts of God IN ERROR -- not really knowing the God whom they worship.

Modern professing mainstream Christianity, on the other hand, REJECT God's [Jesus'] commanded Holy Day feasts, which are recorded in His Word for all of His people to observe, honor and respect.

And in this religiously counter-confusion... modern professing Christianity rejects God's [Jesus'] annual Holy Day feasts because THEY THINK THEY'RE JEWISH!

It's a little funny in a tragic way.

So, on that particular "appointed" Passover [when the timing was just right], Jesus was slated to fulfill the first step, stage or phase of His Father's plan of Salvation for mankind, created in His image... and the restoration of the Kingdom of God on the earth [the real message that Jesus brought and preached [see Mark 1:14-15].

But before He stepped out into the night for His appointed ordeal... He ate that one last Passover with His disciples... and finished it up with the "two symbols" of the "bread and the wine," which, after that day... and for all the future Passovers to come; became "the NEW WAY TO OBSERVE THE PASSOVER MEMORIAL!"

"...FOR EVEN CHRIST OUR PASSOVER IS SACRIFICED FOR US: therefore LET US KEEP THE FEAST..."!!! (I Cor.5:7-8)

That's why Jesus referred to the Bread and Wine as His Body and His Blood.

Bread, which sustains the human body is compared to God's Word in Scripture [Matt.4:4]. The Bible is God's WORD... His BREAD that feeds the spirit in us; nourishes us, sustains us and helps us endure life's trials.

The blood of grapes, FERMENTED WINE, symbolizes the required "shedding of blood for the remission of sins."

"And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." (Heb.9:22)

After that day... the blood of animals became null in the eyes of God the Father. No longer required. The shedding of His Son's blood... His Divine DNA... GOD'S VERY OWN BLOOD was what all the sacrifices throughout history, beginning with the sacrifices of Faithful Abel [see Heb.11:4] pointed to.

Jesus was changing the way the Passover was to be observed from that day... until the day He returns. It is the first step in God's plan of Salvation for mankind, God's future Family. And it is the FIRST PHASE out of all seven annual feasts in God's plan that had to be fulfilled. Jesus was about to fulfill the Passover "prophecy."

"Then at the proper time Jesus and the twelve apostles sat down together at the table. Jesus said, 'I have looked forward to this hour with deep longing, anxious to eat this Passover meal with you before My suffering begins. For I tell you now that I will no longer eat it again until it comes to fulfillment in the Kingdom of God.'

"Then He took a cup of wine, and when He had given thanks for it, He said, 'Take this and share it among yourselves. For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.'

"Then He took a loaf of bread; and when He had thanked God for it, He broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, 'This is My Body, given for you. DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.'

"After supper He took another cup of wine and said, 'This wine is the TOKEN of God's New Covenant TO SAVE YOU - an agreement sealed with the blood I WILL POUR OUT FOR YOU... For I, the Son of Man, must die since it is part of God's plan...'" (Luke 22:14-22 NLT New Living Translation)

The god of this world has done a masterful job of keeping mankind's collective spirit, heart and mind from waking up to God's Truth, through all of his many false religions and counterfeit customs, traditions and "holidays," about which the Bible is silent, except for Jesus' warning:

"These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far away. Their worship is a farce, for they replace God's Commandments with their own man-made teachings. For you ignore God's specific laws and substitute your own traditions. Then He said, 'You reject God's laws in order to hold on to your own traditions..." (Mark 7:7-9 NLT)

Jesus commands His servants to REMEMBER HIM every Passover each year until He returns with the Kingdom of God by using the "new symbols" of the Bread and Wine [symbols of HIS Body and HIS Blood] instead of the blood of animals.

And Paul commands the Gentile church at Corinth [which translates to ALL THE CHURCHES OF GOD] to "...KEEP THE FEAST...". But modern professing Christianity "passes over" that inspired passage, TO HOLD ON TO ITS OWN TRADITIONS.

Nevertheless... Jesus referred to the "bread and wine" as "His Body and His Blood," because He was changing the way the annual Passover Memorial of His Sacrifice [the first fulfilled phase of God's plan] was to be observed until He returns.

Like the traditional "memorials" that the world observes every year... Jesus commands His servants to REMEMBER HIM at Passover time each year in the manner He describes in His Word.

The bread symbolizes the word, and the teachings. When they ate of the bread they consumed the teachings. The wine symbolizes the elixir, it is the blood which sustains the body, and keeps it purified.

It is recorded in The Bible that Jesus gave us the sacrament of the bread and the wine as a memorial, to remember His deathit is a way to proclaim, make known His death until He comes again.

1Corinthians 11:25,26 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup and said, "This cup is God's new covenant, sealed with my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me." This means that every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

How is the Eucharist a memorial of Christ Passover?

The cup/wine reminds us that Christ's blood was shed for the forgiveness of sin. The Bible says without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin. The bread represents His body. Jesus said "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst". - john 6:35. So the bread reminds us that Jesus gives life to those who come to Him in repentance. Also as we break the bread we remember that Jesus' body was broken when He died as a sacrifice for sin. In regard to the Passover, the death of Christ is a picture of the Passover lamb sacrificed by the Israelites just as the blood of the lamb painted on the door posts saved the children of Israel from God's judgment so the blood of Christ will save - those who believe - from God's judgment to come.
