It is only in Matthew's Gospel that John is reluctant to baptise Jesus, saying to him (KJV), "I have need to be baptised of thee, and comest thou to me?"

John's Gospel provides quite the opposite account, with John welcoming Jesus and saying that he had known Jesus would be coming to be baptised (John 1:33), "And I knew him not:but that he sent me to baptise with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Spirit."

Another answer from our community:

The baptism that John performed was a baptism that symbolized repentance, and John knew that Jesus was the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29) the one who would take away the sin of the world and felt this was not the right baptism for Jesus. John said, "I need to be baptized by You, and You are coming to me? "But Jesus answered and said to him "permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness" (Matthew 3:13-15).

well he did not baptise anyone because his mother said that Judas wanted him to baptise him and if Jesus baptised him he would betray God.

Because he wasn't ordained to do so. John the Baptist was "ordained by an angel".

Jesus has bigger fish to fry, and not just fishing. His mission was different.
