Soon the Barons came to a point when they actually saw that John wasn't doing a very good job, with running the country! There are a few reasons why below:

Firstly John lost most of his empire which proved that he was weak, a weak fighter and a weak king! If England were under attack, England would lose, and if John loses, the Barons would lose!!

John then murdered his nephew Arthur. This helped cause the rebellion because it made the Barons distrust John. If he could kill his own family, he could kill anyone!

Unfortunately he only listened to a few favorite advisers, this comes to a point which means he was only listening to the people he was paying, so really in the end it was his own country which was loosing the money!

John quarrelled with the pope, as the pope was meant to be the most important person, it was extremely wrong to argue with him!

Soon John lost the battle of Bouvines in 1214, in the end the taxes went to waste so the Barons actually saw that their money was being wasted

The barons wanted more power and say in running their own affairs and extates

King John took advantage of the feudal law and the splendid organization of the state established by Henry II, to extort money from his subjects of all groups in society: religious and secular, rich and poor, middle class and barons. He squandered in inept and poorly managed efforts, to defend his Angevin legacy against the growing power of the kings of France.

This led to a growing opposition by all his subjects, which turned into armed opposition and open war by the barons.

Why was William careful not to give pieces of land to his barons that were too close together?

He didn't want to give more land to the barons who were close together so, if they gained land, they would join together as a group and would turn against King William, but William didn't want anyone leaving his Castle or attacking it, he wanted to be in order, making himself look like a true king, a proud leader. from, sophia.s
