Well, she wasn't exactly a mathematician as being queen of France ;-). She did invent one mathematical design though, called La Harpie. When the French soldiers went to America to help the Americans fight their revolution, the news came back to Paris from the front that soldiers had seen a new animal specie they had never seen before, and they called it the Harpie. At that specific time, the pouf-hairstyle invented by Marie Antoinette was hotter than hot, and it was especially the trend to have one that portrayed an event. So Marie Antoinette designed a triangular design that was supposed to present the Harpie and had it printed on several dresses and ribbons. Soon it was a huge trend and everybody dressed "a la Harpie". It looked a little like the Louis Vutton logo and was a mathematical design.

The French people didn't like Marie Antoinette for several reasons. In the years of Marie Antoinette's reign, the American War of Independence occurred. The French had been long term enemies of the British, who were on the opposing side to the Americans. Marie Antoinette's husband, King Louis XVI, decided to send soldiers over to America to help fight for Independence, not because he wanted to help them, but to 'get one over on the British.' Because of these foreign ventures taxes were raised, the French people already paid high taxes and soon it became hard to buy food and to pay their rent. What does Marie Antoinette have to do with this? The French people knew that whilst they starved and lived through poverty, Queen Marie was living a life of luxury in Versailles. Rumours started to spread that she didn't care about her peoples trouble, which of course was untrue, Marie Antoinette supported numerous charities throughout her life. One rumour went around that when the Queen was told of the suffering she laughed and said 'Let them eat Cake.' This was also untrue, but it infuriated the people more. The Queen also had a fondness of gambling and spending money that France didn't have. She often bought new shoes and clothes that she didn't need and sometimes never wore. The Queen enjoyed these activities so much because they meant an escape from the rules and regulations that were expected of her as Queen. She was married at the age of 14 and thrown into these strange customs and rules. It was all very overwhelming for her, and so gambling and spending became a retreat. And as most people will know, habits are very hard to break. It wasn't Marie Antoinette's fault for all the problems that France faced. Her husband didn't want her to know about the problems that went on outside of Versailles gates and so she was ignorant, though it wasn't her fault. The French people wanted to believe that their Queen was a greedy, selfish, ignorant. In the past Queens had advised the Kings, but even if she had have known what was going on outside of Versailles, she was powerless, Louis XVI would have ignored her as he did his other good advisers. So in summary, Marie Antoinette was unpopular with the French people because of her gambling and spending habits, her ignorance to their plights and the fact that she had no influence over her husband. It seems a bit harsh to chop her head off though, seeing as most of these problems weren't actually her fault!

"There are many people at Versailles." Was all she said to her in her entire life.

The French people regarded the ancien regime, the system of monarchy and aristocracy that had been in place in France for hundreds of yeras, as evil and responsible for all the hardships that they had been forced to face over the years, which was largely true. The French monarchy was self-indulgent and spent vast amounts of money (i.e. the Palace of Versailles). People regard Queen Marie Antoinette as the embodyment of all that was wrong with the government, with her ridiculous expensive fashions and extravagance. In the Revolution, and above all in the Reign of Terror that encompassed the time during which Marie was beheaded, all the aristocrats, characterized as "enemies of the republic" were sent to the guillotine. Marie was the very height of the monarchy, so she was destined to die. Her life may have been spared if her brother Joseph II of Austria or her mother Maria Theresa were still alive and they could have sent her help, but they were not and so she went to the guillotine.Or:Because she suffered from a fatal birth defect. Well, she had to marry Louis XVI, the crownprince and soon to be King of France, as it was an arranged marriage. There was never any sexual or romantic attraction between them, but they did become good friends eventually. They realized this was their fate. Marie Antoinette is said to have fallen in love with Count Axel von Fersen, aSwedish count. She met him when she was 18 and it was said that eversince they met, they both fell in love. Count Fersen kept coming to court and rumors spread wildly. Until the end of her life they kept in touch. Some of their letters have been preserved and can still be viewed today in the Versailles museum. Though, Fersen burned most of them. His letters to his sister concerning his relationship with a certain "Josephine" (which was his cover-up name for Marie Antoinette) are also preserved. He kept a journal, but until this day, the journal is still with his family and they refuse to publicize it. Fersen never married, he wrote to his sister that the one woman he wanted to marry was not available to him, and that is why he would remain unmarried. It was also rumoured that the second son of Marie Antoinette, the late Louis XVII, was actually his son, but this has never been proven. It has also never been proven that the relationship between Marie Antoinette and Fersen was actually a physical one. Though, the Fersen family keeps his journal secret, as Fersen would have wanted it to. One can only imagine what would happen if these journals were made public and the whole world might learn that the young dauphin Louis XVII was NOT Louis XVI's son, but Fersen's...
