Typically, immigrants flocked to the large coastal cities and those of the northeast tended to have a lot in the way of job opportunities. As the first generation of Middle Easterners would settle in one neighborhood, that community would become desirable for other Middle Easterners of a similar background. (This is similar to the formation of Little Italy and Chinatown.)
