Why did NASA retire the space shuttle program?
Because of budgets, the aging orbiters, and unfortunately.. Politics.
she was in nasa and nasa as a space shuttle is know shut down so yes the program is over
The dissadvantage of the current NASA Shuttle program is that it is outdated. Some of the shuttles still use 8track tapes, so it is cheaper to retire them and bring in a new system instead of update them.
The shuttle program has been completed. There will be no more shuttle launches.
The Space Shuttle Program was Commissioned by NASA and built by the joint effoerts of United Space Alliance, Thiokol/ Alliant Techsystems, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing Rockwell. The Space Shuttle program has nothing to do with religion and spirituality.
NASA is shutting down the space program because the ISS (international space station) will no further need any assistance. NASA also has completed it missions with the space shuttle program just like it is done with Apollo. But this does 100% mean that NASA is not shutting down. Their are many other missions that future astronaut's will discover. Such as the Constellation Program, and mission to Mars.
No they said they are going to come back
NASA plans to replace the Space Shuttle Program with the Orion Program based on an Ares I rocket.
nasa"s space program
Discovery was the last shuttle that launched. With her landing on March 9, 2011, the shuttle program ended.
Yes, the term 'Space Shuttle Program' can be considered a proper noun, an alternate term for the official title of the US government's Space Transportation System (STS) division of NASA.
The end of NASA has not yet ever been discussed but the Space Shuttle program is scheduled to end in December 2011.
it will continue as usual.nasa is not all about sending people to space, it has many important missions aside from the shuttle programe
How many space shuttle flights comprise the shuttle-mirphase 1 part of the international space station program?
According to NASA there have been a total of 119 shuttle missions of which 110 occured.
A: The shuttle Discovery blasted off Monday morning as STS-131. Three more launches and the Shuttle program will come to an end
NASA space shuttle quit cause the wanted to make and improve there shuttle before use of them
The space shuttle is NASA's space transportation system, designed to carry astronauts and cargo to and from Earth orbit. The first space shuttle flight took place in 1981. The space shuttle fleet is scheduled to be retired in 2011. When the shuttle program ends, the space shuttle will have been launched on more than 130 missions. :):):):):)
NASA's (National Aeronautics and Space Administration's) Space Shuttle Program (SSP) has been retired following the end of the last space shuttle mission, STS-135 (Space Transportation System 135), which landed in the pre-dawn darkness hours of Thursday, July 21, 2011 (coincidentally, the day after the 42nd anniversary of the first Moon landing) at the Shuttle Landing Facility (SLF) (runway) at the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. All ten NASA centers played some kind… Read More
None beacuse NASA said that the space shuttles were gas guzzlers and canceled the entire program.
NASA began its space shuttle program in the 1980s. In 1981, NASA's first space shuttle was launched. On June 18, 1983, the first woman to go into space, Sally Ride, was part of the first five man team to orbit the Earth in a space shuttle. On August 30, 1983, the first African American, Guion S. Bluford, went into space aboard Space Shuttle Challenger. On January 26, 1986, Space Shuttle Challenger exploded.
The space shuttle never landed on the moon, but other NASA spacecraft did.
the last nasa launched a space shuttle was on march 18
It has kept up a lot of interest in our own space program. Which NASA acknowledged in naming a space shuttle "Enterprise".
The Apollo 13 had side blown off. There were adisaster of the space shuttle on the launch pad. The crew of a space shuttle died when they rentered the earths athmosphere.
As the space shuttle is a reusable it is now to old.
The next generation manned spacecraft is named "Orion" The name of the program is "Constellation"
NASA is canceling the Space Shuttle program for several reasons. Firstly, there have been 2 space shuttle disasters, leaving 14 astronauts dead. Both accidents were caused by human error and severe problems with NASA management over the space shuttle program. Secondly, the space shuttle is not a very safe vehicle. There have been many close calls on past shuttle missions that could easily have led to catastrophes. The space shuttle is still largely an experimental… Read More
There space shuttle was created by NASA. John Young and Robert Crippen were the brains behind this idea while working for NASA.
The last Space Shuttle to go into space and to the Space Station was Endeavour
Eileen Collins was the first woman to command a space shuttle. Born in 1956, Eileen Collins was selected by NASA for their astronaut training program in 1990 and first flew in 1995. In 1999, on STS-93 on the Columbia space shuttle, Eileen Collins became the first woman space shuttle commander.
As of the end of February 2010, NASA has flown 130 space shuttle flights, two of them ending in catastrophe.
There were six NASA Space Shuttles.
the person that wants to launch a space shuttle, a space company like NASA or the government
NASA launches the space shuttle from the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral in Florida.
The first reusable space ship was the Space Shuttle created by NASA. Named Space Shuttle Columbia.
Now, NASA launches rockets. The Space Shuttles were lied into retirement in 2011. The Space Shuttle was invented in the '80s. NASA has been launching rockets since the '50s!
NASA has officially retired the space shuttle after 134 successful missions and 2 failed missions.
Yes. The Space Shuttle Atlantis will be on display at the Kennedy Space Center.
President George W. Bush initiated the retirement of the Space Shuttle program. After Columbia's loss, the Shuttle was increasingly viewed as unsafe. Because it was also hugely expensive, NASA could not afford to pursue other human space exploration programs while also operating the Space Shuttle. The Shuttle's retirement was intended to pave the way for the development of a new NASA launch system that would be capable of supporting human missions to the Moon, Mars… Read More
NASA They are the only ones to launch space shuttles seeing as how the space shuttle is NASA's vehicle
The Space Shuttle program lasted 30 years, one of the longest space programs in history. The completion of construction of the International Space Station led The United States Congress to direct NASA to focus it's efforts beyond Low Earth Orbit. Initially this took the form of the Constellation program which was later canceled with only the Orion, later named Multi-Purpose Crew Module retained from that program.
by using science which is by NASA
The space shuttle.
Well it was canceled because NASA is instituting a new rocket called the Ares and they are having a whole new program called Constellation. They want to put people on Mars with these and you cannot do that with the space shuttle. And they are also doing it because they are stupid really. The space shuttles make way more sense then the new program they are going to have -.-
The shuttles will be retired by 2010 in order for NASA to channel resources into the Constellation program for future Moon, Mars, and ISS missions.
STS : Space Transportation System .
Why did NASA abandon the Apollo program for the Space Shuttle which has a maximum altitude of 600 miles?
The goals of NASA shifted from lunar exploration to low earth orbit where the space shuttles operate. Instead of exploring the moon, NASA changed its focus to launching commercial and military satellites, humans living long term in space initially with Skylab and on to construction of the international space station.
Two and a half years. :~)
NASA does not use spac shuttle any more
