He didn't want them to fight at first. But then he realized he needed the most people he could get to fight the British so he let them fight. Plus the British promised the African Americans their freedom if they fought with them. So there's another reason he wanted them.

Fredrick Douglass though it was inmortant for African Americans to fight in the war because.....They were slaves...well some werent but they had to be on the confederete side because there color people were slaves.

Obviously you know nothing about history. Blacks were not allowed to fight during World War II. Blacks were not allowed in combat until the Korean War.
