He wanted to become a politician and to become more involved in the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Wyman had been a lifelong registered Republican and was also involved in SAG, but she believed his passion for the both of them would ruin their marriage so, to selfishly avoid a huge heartbreak on her part, she broke his heart and filed for divorce. Reagan found Nancy Davis though, and they became husband and wife, and best friends, so that worked out better anyways!
