The Soviet regime entered the Cold War with the United States in 1945, right after World War 2 ended. With no actual combat going on, the two countries constantly called on their scientists to outdo the other country's. This led to advancement in nuclear bombs, including the invention of the H-Bomb(uses hydrogen instead of uranium. Much stronger than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945.) It also sparked the Space Race. At the time, scientists believed that which ever of the two countries controlled space, that they would be able to shoot nukes and lasers from space down on the other country in the future. The only problem in doing all of these things was that they all cost money. The Soviets lost the Cold War because of two things, they ran out of money and their citizens didn't support the government. The Cold War ended in 1991.

∙ 12y agoThey went bankrupt because of all the weapons they used money to buy, they used money to get the supplies to make the weapons. But they never did end up using any of them so they owed countries money, and didn't have money to pay them back.
