Answer to 1st Q: because of the Russian Revolution. 2nd Q: the withdrawal of the Russians offered new hope for a successful end to the war. Germany was now free to concentrate entirely on the western front.
Germany did not start World War I. They only declared war on Russia because Russia mobilized troops toward the German border because Russia got involved in a territorial dispute between Austria, Germany's ally, and Serbia. Germany most likely would have ignored a fight between the monstrous Austria and little, tiny Serbia, but Russia made a threatening move on Germany which the couldn't ignore. Germany invaded France, but France had already declared war on Germany after Germany went to war with Russia, France's ally. During a war between to nations with a border, one is bound to invade the other and Germany made the first move. There isn't really an excuse for Germany's invasion of Belgium, so if it is mentioned in the debate, I'd suggest BSing an answer and moving on quickly.
Russia after it began to mobilize troops to the German border.
Vladimir Llych Lenin seized power in November 1917. He insisted on ending Russias involvement in the war. One of his first acts was to offer Germany a truce. In march 1918, Germany and Russia signed the treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which ended the war between them. I hope this helped a little!
In 1917, the revolution transferred their support of Alexander Kerensky to Valdimir Lenin. The Russian people despised the war that the tsar had gotten them into because it created starvation and misery. Thus, Lenin promised to the end the war with Germany, so when he came into power, the first thing he did was sign an armistice that released thousands of Germany troops from Russia.
socialism started in Russia
cuz Germany attacked them first
No, but they were allied with Germany at first, then hitler invaded Russia in 1941. After that, they were with the allies.
The mere size of the country makes it impossible to invade. It defends it self so to speak. Too much vast land need to be overcome. Napoleon and Hitler failed. So Russia is still Russia and not a part of france or Hitler Germany, because the luck of war changed for germans in Russia and for the first time they had to withdraw.
