Nobody knows, because she never told anyone her reason.

She was converted at an early date (between 610 and 614), when Muhammad was calling people to forsake idols and commit themselves to prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Perhaps Sawda liked the philosophical idea of only one God instead of several. Or perhaps she was attracted to the Islamic moral system or to the rituals.

Very early Islam was a secret society with a feeling of "we few are privileged above the many". Perhaps Sawda liked the thrill of sharing the world's great secret. Or perhaps she was drawn in through her friendships: her husband was Muhammad's cousin, and Islam was then somethingof a famly affair.

At this very early stage, Muhammad was not saying much about Heaven and Hell, so Sawda was probably not influenced by hopes or fears about her afterlife.

I wonder of the question. Could you tell why you are Christian, or Jewish, or atheist, or Buddhist, or ..... Sure, she believed in the truthfulness of Islam religion per Quran revelation to prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) especially that prophet Muhammad was titled before being prophet as the trustful and the honest. Sawda bint Zam'a was the first woman to immigrate to Abyssinia with her first husband As-Sakran bin Amr, after being persecuted by the polytheists of Mecca (or Makkah).

In the same way as anyone else - by declaring in front of witnesses: "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger." Which wife of prophet mohamed was over 80 years?

Hind (Umm Salama) bint Abi Umayya was about 83 years old when she died. This is in lunar years; but even in solar years, she would have been well over 80. Maymuna bint Al-Harith also lived to be about 80. The exact age of Sawda bint Zamaa is not known, but it is said she died in late 674, in which case she must have been over 90.
