By 1812, Native Americans had several hundred years of lies, broken promises, failed treaties, etc. All the way back to the British promising that settlers would not cross the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains in PA (but settlers did) or the Blue Ridge Mountains (but settlers did), the "white man" (British, French, Spaniards) did not keep their word. Though depicted as "savages", Native Americans had strong values and more so, peaceful values. They were pushed more than once, and sometimes had to fight back.
