Venus and Mars evolved differently than the Earth because of the Goldilocks Theory. Venus is too warm and Mars is too cold. Earth's temperature (distance from the Sun) was "just right". In addition, if a planet does not have water it can't absorb the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Hope this helps.

Firstly Mars is about twice as far away from the sun than Venus (about 200 million km for Mars, 100 million km for Venus). Also, their atmospheres are very different. Venus has a thick atmosphere which acts like a blanket and stops heat escaping. Mars has a very thin atmosphere, so heat escapes very easily.
