The north was communist, the south was capitalist, which was determined by their supporter states, the USSR and the US after independence in 1954, however, this division was only meant to be temporary, with elections to re-unify the country.
During the Nguyen Dynasty, The Nguyen agreed to leave half of Vietnam to the French. South Vietnam's ownership was transferred to US, and Communist Government tried to take over South Vietnam, which they successfully did.
Vietnam was divided after the Geneva Accords in 1964. North Vietnam under Ho Chi Minh became communist. South Vietnam was a democracy/autocracy backed by the US after France withdrew in shame, having lost at Dien Bien Phu. The country was supposed to hold a national election. But shenanigans by Ngo Dinh Diem, South Vietnam's president precluded the election. Unable to win via the ballot box, communist North Vietnam turned to war and the establishment of the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam. South Vietnam lost the war following the withdrawal of its ally. Countless people died after the war ended in concentration/reeducation camps or in the attempts to flee on land (via Cambodia) and by sea.
Ho Chi Minh wanted to establish a communist government in all of Vietnam. However, anti-communists led by Ngo Dinh Diem opposed Ho Chi Minh and wanted to establish a non-communist government in the South. The Geneva Accords in 1954 served as a compromise for both sides.
North Vietnam provided the bulk of the fighting against the French during the French Indo-China War (also known as the 1st Indochina War); when the war ended in 1954, the communist supported north retained the region north of the 17th parallel. The US/Free World forces that had supported the French during the war, as part of the (negotiations) peace agreement; retained the region south of the 17th parallel.
Vietnam didn't divide after WW2 (1945); it divided in 1954 at the end of the French Indochina War.
Because of cold war concerns, the US & USSR/Red China negotiated for two separate nations.
It was split because the North had heavy Communist influence, as the South was Democratic. However, by the end of the war, it was all Communist.
At one point the southern half was a government that said it was democratic. The north was communist. After the war, the whole country was communist.
North Vietnam persevered over it's Southern counterpart in 1975 with the 'Fall of Saigon' thus unifying the the two countries .
Vietnam split in two Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam.
After the Geneva Conventions in 1954 Vietnam was split into two, North Vietnam (communists) and South Vietnam (democrats). The leader of the North was Ho Chi Minh. The leader of the South was Prime Minister Ngo Dinh Diem, who was later elected president of South Vietnam; and overthrown by his own general in a coup d'tat in 1963. Nguyen Van Thieu took over, as leader of South Vietnam, for the remainder of the war.

They all were separated into two separate parts. Korea(North- South) Vietnam(North-South) Germany(East-West)ORA+ - They have all been divided by communismAll three have been split into two countries in their history. Germany has been reunited, as has Vietnam, but Korea is still split.
Vietnam split in two Northern Vietnam and Southern Vietnam.
Germany. It split into East and West Germany.
IMHO.. Its because both Korea and Vietnam have a long history of being one united country before being split into two (the same reason why nobody called Ireland the Ireland's just because its split into the north and the republic). In contrast the Americas have never been one unified country and have a wide range of cultures, ethnic groups and nation states in them.
It is going to be split into two movies.
Both Vietnam and India were split into multiple countries (Apex).
Germany
Do you mean 'split' in two? If yes, then Germany split into West and East Germany
