Wonder Woman is an intelligence officer for ( different versions) the US Army G-2 intelligence unit, or the Naval equivalent. in the Short lived TV version she was a WAVE (female Navy0 Intelligence officer, ranking as lieutenant, JG. In the Army she was a Lieutenant also- L (hershey Bar_ insignia bar) As a federal agent, she sure gets shifted around and unlike most DC comic heroes is not tied down to a base camp such as Metropolis ( Superman) or Gotham ( batman). She is a member of the Justice League but did not figure in the TV cartoon versionof JLA, which had all male characters.
As is so for many comic book characters, there are several origin stories. The dominant one is that she was an Amazon warrior on whom the Olympian gods bestowed great powers and her lasso of truth. The original reason she left her homeland was to fight the Nazis and return a stranded pilot to his home.
