This is sort of my personal opinion, but here me out.
Imagine that just because you chose the shortest straw, you got stuck with the crappy Underworld as your domain. The underworld is dark, cold, creepy, and not to mention filed with dead people! You have almost no contact with the other gods, on account of they think you're creepy and evil, and you are feared by almost everyone.
Then one day, you see Persephone dancing in the fields with her mother. She is the picture of happiness, goddess of spring and harvest. She is also extremely beautiful and incredibly kind.
So you want her to love you. You want this beautiful, kind, intelligent girl to love you. Except remember, you're king of the dead, and completely socially inept, so the only way for you to be near her is to kidnap her.
Or you could have asked her out to dinner, but whatever.

∙ 13y agoHe didn't, Persephone was starving and Hades offered her some pomegranates if he would live with her. For every fruit she ate she spent a month with him in the underworld. So every year she spends the winter and fall with Hades and Spring and summer with her mother Demeter. I hope that answered your question :)

So she asked Zeus to get Persephone back for her, so Zeus sent Hermes to the underworld to retrieve Persephone. He ended up tricking her because for the number of seed she ate she would stay in the underworld with Hades for that number of months and the rest of the months she would go back to her mother. That is why when Persephone is in the underworld, her mother weeps and nothing grows, but when she comes to her mother at home her mother is happy and everything is bountiful and grows. Just like winter and summer.

Hades didn't force Persephone to marry him. Zeus (Persephone's Father) promised her hand in marriage to Hades, but he neglected to inform both Persephone and Demeter (Persephone's Mother) of this. Hades came to claim his bride, which turned into an abduction because Persephone didn't know about it. She was very mad and upset at him for a very long time, but I do believe that she eventually warmed up to him (since due to the eating of pomegranate seeds she spends half of the year with him), and I think she did marry him of her own accord.

Well of course I do! The first story I can think of is the story of how she became the Queen of the Underworld. (sounds terrible, doesn't it?) Some info you should know first- Persephone's mom is Demeter Husband is Hades Father is Zeus Persephone is the goddess of spring the goddess of innocence the Queen of the Underworld Here's the simplified version: Persephone was picking flowers in a meadow and the ground opened up. Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, grabbed her and pulled her down to the Underworld with him. Hades had been watching Persephone for some time and thought she was perfect for his Queen. Demeter went into a great depression. Her daughter was missing. All the crops for the mortals were dead. (this is also the story of the seasons... [winter now]) Demeter pleaded for Zeus to bring her back. But in the Underworld, Persephone was at a feast. She knew if she ate ANYTHING, she would be trapped there forever. So when Hades offered her a pomegranate, she sucked on the seeds and spat them out. Back on Mt. Olympus, Zeus came up with an idea. He bargained with Hades, and they came up with a plan- Persephone would be with Hades for so many months, then in the spring, she would return and Demeter would grow the crops for the humans.
