He wanted to be able to observe the battle and issue commands to his army; which is difficult to do when someone is shooting at you.
That was the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Was it the Battle of Tippecanoe?
Yes, the Duke of Cumberland was a far better leader than BPC. He trained his men well, enough to withstand the terrifying highland charge, while BPC was unexperienced, disagreed with his highland chiefs and led his men on an all night march to try and surprise the Hanoverians, which failed and the Jacobites had to turn back, the night before the battle, and were tired, hungry & cold. Furthermore, BPC let his men be fired upon for 10-30 minutes, letting them stand still in the face of cannon fire, before ordering them to charge across a boggy landscape. He even fled Culloden when he saw the battle was going badly. So, yes, whilst I prefered the Jacobites, BPC was a very poor leader.
