Why did british surrender to japan?

The British & Commonwealth forces surrendered at Singapore largely because of the swiftness & surprise in the attacks by the Japanese in the Malay peninsula. Hugely stretched by the potential war in Europe & the actual war against the Axis in North Africa the British lacked the resources to defend the Far East against Japanese aggression. With hindsight it might be argued that surrender was premature, but even then defeat was surely inevitable in the longer term. Had the Japanese attacks not involved the US, brining them into both the Pacific & European conflicts, then Britain & the Commonwealth are under the sort of pressure which may have become intolerable. The Japanese actually tricked Singapore by lying that a huge troop of Japanese would come and attack Singapore the next day if the British did not surrender. However, the Japanese actually did not have that big troop of army and their supply of necessities were depleting. If the British did not surrender, the losing side might be the Japanese instead.

They were losing air superiority and they thought they were going to lose.

They could have won if they did not surrender. The Japanese were running low on supplies, especially ammunition. They were actually worried whether they were going to win. But, if the British did not surrender, Singapore would most likely now, be still a British colony. :) Hope this answered your question.

While the Japanese had already surrendered to MacArthur on board the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay on September,1945 officially ending WWII, they also surrendered two weeks later in Singapore to Lord Mountbatten. This officially ended the Japanese Occupation of Southeast Asia.

The British thought that the Japanese were inferior to them, so they underestimated their power. Ironically, the Japanese had much more advanced technology. For example, the Japanese 'Zero' fighter planes wiped out more than half of the British air force.

The Japanese were also more skilled in jungle warfare, and applied the use of tanks and bicycles in jungles, in which the British did not expect.

In truth, during the battles in Singapore, the Japanese were outnumbered about 3:1. But the British did not know, and surrendered, thinking that they would be defeated if they continued fighting against the Japanese.

Because general cornwallis pretended to be sick because he knew that his army would loose and had no choice to surrender because they were out of ammunition and so he sent his deputy to surrender for him then his deputy when general washington and he declined his offer to surrender and said "go speak to my deputy" so he went to surrender to deputy Lincoln and lincoln excepted his offer to surrender. this all happended in yorktown.
