different dyes travel with different speed/rates on filter paper in paper chromatography as they have nothing to do with the filter paper as it is the stationary medium while the rates depends upon the interaction between the solute i.e., dyes and the mobile phase i.e., the solvent.

You can use the filter paper or chromatography paper to separate the different components in black ink.

What is paper chromatography used for?

Paper chromatography is a method used for separating out different components of solution. The most common classroom use for it is to visually see the different colored dyes in ink because the different colors will travel different lengths across the paper.

What are some possible alternatives for paper chromatography?

Coffee filter paper can be used. It does not produce results as good as chromatography paper, but it still works.

What are the relations with pigment and chromatography?

the more soluble the plant pigment is with the chromatography solvent, the farther it will travel up the chromatography paper

Where may one learn about paper chromatography?

If you like science Paper Chromatography is something to look into. You can take Chemistry classes to find out different ideas on how to use Paper Chromatography.

A hypothesis for paper chromatography?

A hypothesis for paper chromatography depends on what you are making the hypothesis on. A hypothesis for the speed of chromatography could be that you think the speed of the process can be changed depending on the type of paper, or whatever the stationary phase is, and the type of solvent being used.

Differences between ordinary paper and filter paper?

Filter paper is more dense than usual paper so it can be used to trap particles in a filter. Tracing paper is thin and seethrough so it is easier to see what you are tracing.

What is a suitable solvent for paper chromatography?

In paper chromatography n-butanol:acetic acid:water mixture in the ratio 4:1:1 is used as a solvent whereas in case of thin layer chromatography(TLC) petroleum ether and acetone in the ratio 9:1 is used as a solvent. Also, in some cases, DCM(dichloromethane is used as a solvent.

Why do pigments travel different distances up filter paper?

It depend on the density of the pigments.

How is chromatography used to study plant pigment?

chromatography is basically a technique used for the separation of different components.... plant pigment consist of different components..... the sample is taken nd spotted over a chromatography paper..... nd den it is kept in suitable solvent to get separated...... different components travel different distance on chromatogram.... dis is how v cn use chromatography to study plant pigments...

What paper is used in chromatography?

As such there is no hard and fast rule which solution to use. It depends on what component of the material are we interested in as carries the components of the mixture with it and different components travel at different rates.
