Why did eastern empier last longer?

The Eastern Roman Empire had two man advantages. Its provinces were generally wealthier and more politically stable that those in the Western Roman Empire. Also, geography was on its side. The main threats from about 400 AD through the Dark Ages came from Germanic tribes who had easy access to the heart of the Western Empire but poor access to the Eastern Empire.
