She was deceived by the serpent.

Answer:
Eve's eating the apple was a completely foreseeable event.
The basis of the story was that prior to eating the fruit of the tree Eve and Adam had no understanding of good and evil, they couldn't tell right from wrong, couldn't understand the concept of a lie, had no understanding of doing the "right thing".
Put into this mix a supernatural talking snake that could tell lies - which no one could understand as being lies - and you have the makings of a problem.
So, on being told to eat the apple Eve did so in an innocent fashion, just like she was designed to do and had no defense to allow her not to do so.
Being given a task to do that she was designed to fail, she failed. That is, she ate the apple.

To move the plot along; if they hadn't then they'd still be there, living happily ever after.

AnswerFirst, apples grow on apple trees, not trees of knowledge of good and evil. Second, if Adam and Eve hadn't eaten the "fruit" they would still be there, living happily ever after, according to the story.

From Islamic perspective, not only Eve is responsible for God disobedience. Both Adam and Eve are responsible. In Quran, it is mentioned that they commanded not to approach the tree and were informed that Satan is their enemy. They were advised not to obey listen or obey Satan.

However, God know that Satan will persuade and cheat both Adam and Eve to eat the fruit and God knows, of course, that both Adam and Eve will eat the fruit. Accordingly, when this happened, both of them were blamed by God (and not only Eve), both of them got naked afterward, both of them began to sew together, and later God accepted the repentance (towbah) of both of them.

There were MANY kinds of fruit trees in the Garden(Genesis 1:11-12)and God gave all of them as food for his human and animal creation(Genesis 1:29-30). Only one tree was withheld from human consumption, the 'Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Bad'(Genesis 2:17). Eve knew of God's command NOT to eat from this one tree(Genesis 3:2-3) but chose to disobey it based on a lie told by the devil, posing as a talking snake(Genesis 3:4-7), and a selfish desire she allowed to grow in her heart.

This Tree was a symbol of God's "sovereignty", his 'right to rule'...his right to make the decisions about what was right and wrong for his human creation. When Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree, they, in essence, rejected God's authority in favor of making their OWN decisions on how to run their lives. Eve, specifically, "bit the fruit" because she wanted more power than she had a right to. She allowed her thoughts to dwell on something that was not hers to have, and as she thought about it and rationalized about it, the tree became 'something to be longed for'(Genesis 3:6)and idolized. She, in essence, became the first human 'idolater' on earth, by putting her desire for this 'forbidden fruit' (this power to make her OWN decisions on what was right and wrong) above her worship of a creator who had given her everything.

Because the serpeant (which pretty much was sin, desire, and the Devil) tried to persuade her to bite it. The apple was delicious and tempting like most things in life. It would be like a human trying to resist receiving a million dollars even though they were all forbidden. However, God had already given Adam and Eve everything in the Garden of Eden. It was simply tempting and human nature...

She was tricked by the evil serpent. The serpent told her that God did not want her and her husband eating from the tree of knowledge because their eyes will be opened and they shall become like God, knowing good and evil. The woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, and she ate it.

A:

There is no suggestion in The Bible that Adam and Eve ate an apple; that is a simplification of the biblical story, for younger children. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, it was from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Unfortunately, the Bible does not say why Eve offered the fruit to Adam, or why he so readily ate it. However, by eating of it, they were now like gods, except that they were still mortal (Genesis 3:22-23): "And the Lord God said, Behold the man has become as one of us, to know good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the Tree of Life, and live forever: therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden."
