When George Stepheson was about 14 he started working with his father on machinery. Over time he began to create little things of his own. Eventualy he came to control all the big parts of machines in a few mines. Soon he began to wonder how one could cary or pull coal from one end of a mine to the other. When he realized replacing horses with an engine worked, he began to work on a contraction that would make transporting more and/or heavier goods easier, thus the idea of the train.
