If you said no, or did not answer, he could have said it was a joke to spare his feelings and/or to try to not make things awkward.
He wanted to know what your reaction would be so maybe later on in life he could ask the same question or maybe he might have been shy and thought of that as a back up if you said no, but if you said yes then this person has some problems. if it were me and i said yes and he said it was a joke than i would later on and i'm talking about a couple days, i would ask him the same question and see his reaction. but it all depends on you...-:)
