Before the U.S joined in a war against Germany and Japan, the Japanese were attacking China. The Chinese were a great ally to the U.S, but the U.S didn't want to send direct military support to the Chinese. So instead they started to ship supplies to Chineese resistance fighters, military personel and refugees. As a result the Chinese started to push the Japanese back out of their country. At first the Japanese didn't know about the U.S support to the Chineese, but eventually their intelegence sources discovered what the U.S was doing. The U.S had been shipping supplies from mainland U.S.A to the harbors in California. From California they would be shipped to Pearl Harbor and from Pearl Harbor they would fly the supplie to China, air drop them in and fly back where the process would repeat. Since attacking California would cost more money and have less chance of success the Japaness decided to bombe pearl harbor. After they bombed Pearl Harbor the supply drops to China were stopped completely. After the supply drops halted it was only a matter of time until the Japanese took control of China completely.
